Quinn Chapel AME Church

7,215 square feet

Jefferson City, Missouri

Due to the new Hwy 50 interchange, the historic African Methodist Episcopal Church was demolished. This imposition was transformed into a positive opportunity when The Architects Alliance was commissioned to design a new church building only a block from the previous site.

The aesthetic is modern and youthful with angular lines, colored lines, asymmetrical ceilings, porous fellowship, abundant glazing, and high interior volumes. As gesture to tradition, the existing ornamental columns, stained glass windows, chancel cross, wooden doors, and rooftop steeple have been salvaged, preserved, and relocated into the new building. The building exudes an optimistic future supported by the strength and character of the past.
